And an annoucement...

I'm going to be in London for the next several days, so a couple stories may be *gasp* late. I promise to make it up to you.

Also, I was highly amused by the repeated image of a six year old girl saying "bitchcakes" in Neil Gaiman's blog. You...really have to see it in context.

Title: Silver Bells
Fandom: Mage (well, sort of - it's my Mage character pre-awakening. Man, she's so much better off with Romano...Jason was kind of a dolt.)

Rose was playing “Silver Bells” on her guitar when Jason got home. He grinned. “Hey there,” and leaned in to kiss the top of her head. She smiled, but didn’t stop playing. “How was your day?”

She shrugged. “Eh, not all that exciting. George had to come over and fix my laptop, but otherwise I’ve just been practicing. You know, like you should do?” She winked at him as he rolled his eyes.

Choosing to ignore her comment, he asked, “What happened to the laptop?”

She shrugs. “Blue screen of death, but more specifically, no idea.” He tossed her a pack of cigarettes, which she managed to catch.

“Good hands.”

“You would know.” She pulled out a cigarette and lit it casually. “So, oh mighty breadwinner, you learn the harmony to ‘Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas’ yet?”

“Oh, erm…yeah. Totally.”

She raised an eyebrow. “Yeah? Let’s run it then, while you’re here.” She struck a chord before he had time to argue, and launched into it. After a rather shaky start, they did all right, until they got to a certain line.

“Jason, we’re doing it with the right lyrics, not the happier ones.” She sighed, and tucked a lock of purple hair behind her ear. “Until then, we’ll try to…”

He cut her off. “No one knows that version. And anyway, it’s depressing. Nothing wrong with ‘Hang a shining star…’”

“But it’s not the original. It’s meant to be a bit of a depressing song, that’s why we put it in the set. As an anecdote to ‘The Twelve Days of Christmas.’ We’ve got enough cheer with every drunkard in the audience yelling ‘FIVE GOOOOLD RINGS!’”

Jason scowled at her, shaking his head. “No one wants to be depressed at Christmas time, Rosie.”

She half-smirked and shook her head. “You just never like anything dark, do you? Come on, do it the right way. Won’t kill you.”

They were still practicing when Thomas poked his head in. He just watched the two of them for a moment until Jason noticed him and broke off. His smile got wider as he stepped into the room.

Rose raised an eyebrow. “You swallow a canary, Tommy boy?”

He just shook his head. “It sounds great. This’ll be some concert.”

Jason sighed and wrapped his arms around Rose’s shoulders as she laughed in exasperation. “It’s all Rosie’s doing, you know. Without her, the band falls flat.” He kissed her hair. “She’s magic.” Tommy just laughed as Rose snorted and started playing “White Christmas,” without further comment.
