Just breathe in. Then out. Take a step. Then another. Easy.

So easy.

You don’t have to taste the sewage hovering just over your tongue, in the foul air. You don’t have to let the ice cold rain trickle down your neck. You don’t have to shiver when she opens her mouth, in that perfect, silent moment before she speaks.

You can run. You can fight. You can walk away.

But whatever you do, don’t breathe in. Don’t think too hard. And don’t meet her eyes.

Because leaders will use you, and partners will die, and you should know better than to trust a woman. But if you stay calm, and keep moving, you’ve got a shot.

Maybe just one.

But a shot, nevertheless.

So you’ve been duped. Everyone’s been led astray, one way or another. But it’s only when you cave to the cold panic clawing at the base of your spine, when you sink to your knees and do not rise, that you are truly lost.

Take another. One more step. Breathe out. Then in.

Don’t loose your head.

And for god’s sake, whatever you do, don’t cry.

Hi! I just wandered across from 15minuteficlets to see what other people made of the latest prompt. It's fantastic to see second person used so well and I particularly liked the way you worked with senses, especially taste. It added an additional of reality to everything.
