Title: Perfect
Fandom: Sweeney Todd
Characters: Benjamin Barker, Johanna
Prompt: 093, Thanksgiving
Word Count: 100
Rating: G
Author's Notes: A holiday drabble a day early.

She was sleeping. Benjamin leaned down to watch his daughter breathe in and out, tiny chest rising and falling. He had crept in to the softly firelit room once Lucy was asleep to watch Johanna for a moment. Her hair was a soft, downy gold, her complexion rose-tinted cream. Once he had believed there was nothing in the world more beautiful than his wife. He had been right at the time; Jo hadn’t been born yet. Now, watching her dream about things he couldn’t guess at, Benjamin offered a silent prayer of thanks. His life would never be more perfect.

"Once he had believed there was nothing in the world more beautiful than his wife. He had been right at the time; Jo hadn’t been born yet."

That line actually made me a little misty-eyed, cheesy as that may sound. Lovely work, as always.

Ack, I love reading about pre-sentence Benjamin Barker and his storybook perfect life at a glance. (Because I think if we dug deeper, we'd find things not quite as seemingly ideal.) But in Benjamin's eyes, everything was perfect. Fics like these just break my heart because of that. Wonderfully written.

Love the last line..."His life would never be more perfect." He's right; it never would.
